Marriage in 320 Square Feet | Infinite Devotion Episode 154
Dawn and I have lived full-time in our RV for almost two years. We live together, work together, travel together, and do all of it in a house with four rooms, thin walls, and a garden hose for plumbing. When a man heard about this recently, he looked at me and said, "You must be really good people."
We like each other, which helps. Mostly, we've gotten good at navigating discomfort. In this episode Dawn and I talk about what close quarters actually do to a marriage: the space you can't get from each other, the noise you can't control, and what this life has taught both of us about meeting our own needs without making the other person the problem. Then we stick around for a game of "who's more likely to," which gets a little spicy.
In this episode we get into:
- Dawn crying through a wave of grief five feet from me making breakfast, and why she didn't ask me to stop
- Why the biggest challenge of a small space is emotional room, more than physical room
- What happens to a marriage when the eight hours apart disappear
- The weekenders, a 10 PM golf cart parade, and recording content with a remote control car outside the bedroom wall
- Three nights of storms, a 300-mile tow, and the dent in the truck that reminds me not to drive exhausted
- Hard water, Dawn's hair, and the real logistics of plumbing a house with a garden hose
- The laundromat saga in Michigan's Upper Peninsula
- Enforced minimalism, and why we still dress up in a campground
- Dawn's one-word answer when strangers ask what we do for work
- Who's more likely to: forget things, wake the other up, get sappy, speed, laugh at a funeral, and forget how thin the walls are
- The recipe app Dawn and I built together
- The Infinite Devotion book launches November 10
